I Started With Nothing

Hi I'm Nic Fitzgerald...

I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2015. As a failed financial advisor, and at 35 years old, I finally listened to the inner voice and created my own business. I founded Friendly Giant Films, and set out to create awesome videos for companies. There was one major problem though… I didn’t have a video camera of my own. Yes, you read that right. I started a video production company without actually having a video camera.

That’s the thing about me, I figure out how to make things work. I started making little videos for businesses, and started making a little money. That grew into working on film sets. I started focusing on high end film production, and lost sight of what I wanted to do for businesses. I was working long hours, running my body into the ground, and making less than $20 an hour. 

We were on food stamps, medicaid, and were renting a basement apartment from a family member. Something had to change. So I refocused on serving entrepreneurs and began studying digital marketing. My mind was opened to a whole new world of possibilities, and I was excited to start intentionally promoting my skills and services.

The trouble was, I didn’t know where to go to find clients, how to get my message out in an effective way, or how to do it as a total beginner. Like most entrepreneurs, I hired a coach to help me get some direction. I had one thing ingrained into my mind: I needed to publish. “Publish? What does that mean?” It was simplified for me: “get your message out there.”

I already had an awesome video for my website. I posted on Facebook frequently. I shared photos on Instagram. How else do I get my message out to the public, especially when I didn’t have much of an audience to share it with? Then, the light bulb moment: Facebook Live.

I grabbed my laptop, and went live. I was hooked, and started going live every day. Looking back, I’m almost embarrassed by that Live. The energy was low. My camera angle wasn’t great. The story was good, but lacked energy. I was totally comfortable with going live, but I had a long way to go to become good. I started looking at what others were doing, modeling the good, and avoiding the bad. I became intentional with my messages. I also started applying what I learned working in film, tv, commercials, and news to make my Facebook Lives look different from the others. 

After hundreds of Facebook Lives, I have a brand, not just a business. Using Facebook Live opened the doors to being invited to speak on stage with my friend, Russell Brunson, co-founder of Clickfunnels. It opened the door to speaking on stage and being a round table host in front of 4,500 people at Funnel Hacking Live. I grew an audience from nothing, to loyal fans who implement what I teach, and get results for their business. It’s the vehicle I used to grow my company from zero revenue to over six figures in only eight months.


I don't say all that to impress you, but to impress upon you that it takes time and effort to get it right (but you have the opportunity to discover it the easy way).
